Alaskan Rainbow and Grizzlys

Its tough to fish when you think a bear is going to eat you for dinner. So, for the most part I fished out of the raft! Fishing was great with lots of Dolly Varden and Rainbow trout eating egg patterns. The Kings were spawning and the trout were lined up like little kids at a picnic. The fishing was nonstop from dark to dark with many rainbows getting in the air 2 and 3 times to show their displeasure. The river was in great shape and the weather was chilly up there. Luckily the new proto type beanie with a short bill worked to perfection to keep my ears and head warm all day. It rained off and on all 3 days and keeping warm was key to being able to stay out all day long. We stuck over 500 fish and landed about 200 between the 3 of us in 3 full days of fishing. We had our own raft and truck for the shuttle which allowed us to make 15 floats!! I would guess 60% were dollies and about 40% were rainbows. We ran into 4 or 5 grizzly bears and one big black bear…they were all eating fish, so maybe I wasn’t even on the menu this trip…
Paolo.
